HEeADSSS Assessment

Apex Care Uses the HEeADSSS Assessment for a guide when reporting daily notes. HEeADSSS is an acronym for an assessment tool identifying risk and protective factors.

Young people living with chronic health conditions are more likely to participate in risky health behaviours and have higher rates of mental health conditions than their healthy peers.

Explore safety, connectedness (positive, ongoing relationships are proven to be protective factors in most areas of young people's lives) and performance/actual behaviour.

Issues of concern should be reported back via the 0800 number.

Validation

More Info:

When done correctly, validation can be the best tool to help de-escalate a tense situation.

Remember, not to focus on what happened; focus on what the person feels about it.

Address the person’s feelings, not the situation.

To address the feelings, you must do so using emotional language, not rational or judgmental language.

Trauma Informed Care

Trauma-informed Care is a strengths-based Framework that is grounded in an understanding of and responsiveness to the impact of trauma, that emphasises physical, psychological and emotional safety for both providers and survivors, and that creates opportunities for survivors to rebuild a sense of control and empowerment
